Teaching Spanish to adults after 50

Hi! I recently got several individual students that are around 50 years old or so and I've noticed that their clases are quite different from my usual ones. Somehow they prefer "translation exercises" (from mother tongue to Spanish) rather than just speaking or doing other tasks. As if it helped them memorize the structure of Spanish better. Have you noticed anything like that?
I used to teach mainly to young adults in their 20´s (via Skype), but now my clientele has significantly changed. It would be great to hear any tips, observations or advices from other teachers who have more experience with more mature students.
Thank you so much anyways!
